Are you in need of a water heater and considering if tankless is a better option over storage? We’re seeing more Indianapolis area homeowners choose a tankless water heater because of its energy efficiency and compact design (goodbye bulky storage tank). Here are a few things to keep in mind in your search for a water heater:
Energy efficiency: Storage tank water heaters have an energy efficiency rating of approximately 60 percent. Tankless water heaters are 90 percent and above. Because of this efficiency, homeowners with tankless water heaters can expect a significant reduction in their annual energy bill.
Hot water availability: There will be numerous gallons of hot water available in a storage tank water heater for at least 24 hours after the energy source goes out. That’s not the case with tankless water heaters. If there isn’t an energy source, there’s no hot water.
Longevity: If properly maintained, storage tank water heaters last up to seven to 10 years. Homeowners can expect a tankless water heater to last at least 15 years with a longer warranty on most parts.
Cost: Tankless water heaters often cost up to three times more to install than storage tank water heaters.
Maintenance: All water heaters are susceptible to problems associated with hard water, but tankless water heaters tend to require more maintenance because of this issue. Service checks are recommended at least once a year.
